i have only been away from him for 3 months and miss him like crazy and if he goes to iraq i woudnt like to think what could happen

He'll probably be fine, 800,000-1,200,000 different US Troops have been to Iraq and only 3100 have died. The odds are in his favor.

Chances are good that he's going to be just fine. You can help him stay safe by keeping his "mind on his mission". What that means is, help keep his spirits up by writing lots of letters and sending pictures and care packages. (No chocolate for awhile though... it'll melt!)
Letters and packages take about a week to get to Iraq, but the letters he will write to you will take about a month. So, if you don't hear from him much, please don't worry.

Hang in there and get creative with packages for him. No one likes to say good bye to someone they love. However, the homecomings are wonderful
