You should see some improvements within 7 days but it can take anything from 2 to 4 weeks to see a real improvement.
Cipramil has less side effects than the older antidepressants. It can however cause drowsiness. You might get some side effects like diarrhoea or vomiting at the start but it should go away when you get used to the drug.
Keep taking it for at least 4 weeks anyway and if your not happy with it see your doctor again. And remember some Psychiatrists can be very flippant so stand your ground!

I've taken it, it helped, although I slept a lot - I felt better after 4 weeks- however everyones response is different, having a brother and son who are mentally really ill, I would advise that anti-depressants do work over time especially if the trigger for the illness is also dealt with. However the side effects are immediate and can be bad, some need watching - the answer, read the packet, find out about the drug and talk to you doctor. If you don't get help or relief after a month go back and keep pestering - change your GP if necessary. We are all different and there is a great range of help and medication out There.
Oh - DON'T take street drugs, natural remedies or alcohol when under medication - it will stuff the treatment and lead to possible complications

my daughter went onto cipramil after trying Prozac which made her suicidal.within two weeks of starting the cipramil the difference in her was amazing.also our GP referred her to a psychologist who helped her to understand her depression and why she reacted to situations the way she did ,she was able to put everything she was feeling into perspective and realized that she would eventually recover which she did
my exhusband also took the same drug for quite a while and it really made a difference for him too.there were no side effects for either of them that i can remember.
i also have suffered with depression and with the help of anti depressants and a lot of inner strength was able to overcome my problems.
the most important lesson that i learnt from these experiences was that no matter how much you stress out it will not change anything for the better.
you will just end up making it harder for yourself to recover.
good luck and remember you are not alone in this plenty other people have the same illness and its nothing to be ashamed of.

Cipramil is a perfectly good SSRI antidepressant. These drugs generally take about 3 weeks to BEGIN to have an effect. It is unusual to be on them for less than 3 months, assuming the doctor continues to feel his management is correct, and often for much longer.
It is disappointing that your doctor did not explain this to you.

I have done in the past, i found it a pretty good one actually.
Side effects are pretty much the same for all the modern anti depressants.
check out Patient UK website they have a list on there, but remember nearly all the side effects listed wont happen to you.
Takes about 7 days to 2 weeks to kick in, if you feel a bit drowsy that will pass after a few weeks too.

Please do not worry, this is one of the better drugs as far as antidepressants are concerned just give them some time , they will probably make you feel a little tired[that may be good] i took them for over 2yrs. May take 2-4 wks as others have said, i noticed a big change, and at the time they were right for me.
Also take with a full glass of water this will help with any sickness you may/or may not get. Take care
