NO it can be either a cross or a crucifix

There are different kinds of rosaries. The one most Catholics pray have 5 sets of 10 beads representing the ten Our Fathers said. Most rosaries have a crucifix on it. The crucifix has the image of Christ on it. A cross is without the image.

I never saw any one special kind of cross... I had several different rosaries and each crucifix was different, and one just had a cross (it was wooden w/ wooden beads). Check out Leaflet Missal's catalogue: www.leafletonline.com and you'll see all KINDS of nice rosaries. EWTN's website has 'em too.
