Growing up I was not allowed to go to friends houses so i got used to staying home and hanging around other adults and my parents. Now that my parents have spit up and my mother has remarried, my mother's husband constantly calls me spoiled because when i don't get to spend time with my mother i become very upset. Unlike most teens i like being around my mother but because she has remarried she is barely home and when i want to spend time with her she is either too tired or gone. am i really spoiled because when i don't get time with my mother i get upset?

honestly

I don't believe you are spoiled. You were kept "under your mother's coattail" constantly and never knew any difference. Could you ask your step-father to sit down with you and discuss how your life was prior to your parent's divorce? Perhaps he could help you and might become really good friends.

You didn’t state how old you are (the teenage years include 13-19), but I assume you’re a minor, still living at home, and therefore do see Mom on a daily basis. You also didn’t state how upset you get or what you do/say when you’re upset.

It sounds like you’re just very attached to your mother, and you’re probably jealous that you don’t get ALL of her time now that Step-dad has entered the picture. If that’s the case then you need to learn to deal with. Mom and Step-dad have a right to some alone time, and they need it in order to maintain a healthy marriage.

Depending on how old you are, and IF you are overly-attached, it may be time to begin breaking that attachment some (I don’t mean *completely*, of course). It’s called growing up, and it’s HEALTHY.

No I dont think you are spoilt. Exactly how upset do you get though? Throwing a tantrum would be getting toward the reason he's calling you spoilt maybe, sulking would also contribute. There is nothing wrong with you wanting to spend time with your mother but you must also allow them their time together. Dont forget you could also benefit from some 'our time' together, all 3 of you. Talk to your mother first, see how it goes then maybe try talking to both of them together.

I don't think it's because you want to spend time with your mother. You didn't describe what "upset" meant. If it resembles a tantrum or sulking in any way then yes- that behavior makes you spoiled. If no, then he might just be jealous that he has to share your mother with you. It's good you wnat to spend time with your mom.
