I'm kinda new at this company. I've been the Chief Safety Officer for the last 4 months. I would like to make a good impression at tonights end of fiscal year company wide dinner.
How many beers is it appropriate to drink? I was thinking of cutting myself off after 6, but that might make me look like a wuss. Any thoughts?

After many years of research, I have come up with the "4 Beer Rule".
Basically, in social situations you need to limit yourself to no more than 3 beers. As you are tucking into pint number four, you will find yourself wanting to spend the whole night doing the aforementioned activity. Also, Beer no. 4 can be labelled as the "Gateway Beer." It will inevitably lead to more beers, hence opening the gateway.
So, in conclusion, make sure you keep it under 4 beers.

How about allowing yourself to get a beer only if your boss is getting a beer also? He could hardly think ill of you for drinking the same amount as himself.
Too, know your own limits. And don't allow yourself to get smashed at your first big company dinner.

As the chief safety officer you should not drink at all. You would be showing responsibility to your bosses by showing that you do not drink and drive. Drink club soda with a lime. It looks like a cocktail but isn't. Better yet, drink iced tea.

I'd say 6 makes you look very 'unsafe'. Call it quits at 2 and say you are driving home or have another engagement etc - make some excuse...that is if people are rude enough to ask.
It wouldn't look good if you were pissed no matter how 'funny' you think you were!

Try to keep it at three. if more then three (you're at the party for a while), the sip, not chug!
if there are others drinking excessively, let them make a fool of them self,
if the boss is computing with you, let him win.
just don't ruin your reputation, and don't make a fool of yourself.

do what the others are doing but i wouldn't have more than two.
personally i wouldn't drink at all. million other nights to drink. don't jeopardize your job.
