I was at the doctors, and this teenage girl was falling all over herself, because of the "reaction" to the drug prescribed by the doctor. We all got a good show in the waiting room !

I would cope a hole in the ground and only come out at night when everyone is sleeping ......If we did not have drugs people would probley just start dying off more quicker from stress. The only way I think people would be able to cope is to go all herbal....EVERYTHING HERB.... (People should color with crayons more often.)

In order to get my complete answer to this question you really need to go to my 360 site and go back to June 18, 2006 and read the 38 entries from the start.
It is very possible to live a happy and complete life without the drugs.
However there are some people who need to take medicine and should not stop as long as the doctor says they are necessary.
You can get to my 360 by clicking on my picture. It is open to the public.

They'd have to attempt to cope and be constantly miserable, frequently right up until they kill themselves. There would be much more self medicating with drugs and alcohol as well. I know for a fact my meds are the only reason I can wake up and go to work every day and the only reason all my scars are old and healed and a good part of why I haven't accidentally or impulsively killed myself. I'm personally very thankful we have these meds. It's not as simple as just "coping".

People can't cope because our society has changed- our food is polluted with high fructose corn syrups and chemicals. We eat hundreds of pounds of sugar a year, which our bodies/mind can't cope with. We work 15 hour days and put the kids in daycare. We don't go to church for support. Families are destroyed by divorce and multiple remarriages. The Internet, not community centers, is our new "social network." Our world has changed faster than our basic biology. And our medical system is based on drug & insurance profit, not health.

People would have to cope. However not all mental illnesses can be "coped" with. This is why they used to put people in institutions many, many, many years ago. These people could not cope and there was no way to treat them.
The way you phrased your question, it sounds as if you are against medication for psychiatric illnesses. I agree they are over-prescribed but I do believe they have their place.

They were hid away by family members and thought they were possed by the devil hundreds of yrs ago. For those who call people lazy and don't want to work (that may be the case in some instances but not the majority) you think they're strange and weird and you persecute them and you have the gall to judge them...basically many people in society are still in the middle ages.

Some people would need to learn to cope--while others would be in the old fashioned insane asylums--living in filthy conditions, and basically getting no help.
I agree that they are prescribing too many people psych meds, but some owe their lives to them!!

NO, there would be a revolution!
I have noticed over the past few months, an increase in "Bi - Polar disorder questions!
Is the government giving an increase of welfare allowance for it?

Some people take meds to cope with disabilities--I could see them being homeless, since they'd have difficulty holding down a job.

well, thats a tough question.
in the days when we didnt have all of the drugs to treat these conditions, there wasnt as many people with mental illnesses. today children, teenagers, have depression its so scary! if most didnt have this medication then they would not be able to recover.
