If you do have one can it talk? I just got one and he only says no.

Thats funny mine is a guard bird too. He starts screaming and I'm like someone check the door.

That's more than mine does. All he does is screech! I don't need a doorbell or burglar alarm. The minute somebody steps onto the porch, or walks by, he starts. Which annoys my cockatoo, my macaws, and my African Grey. It's like they look at me and say, "Please, just let me near him for one sec and I'll put an end to the screeching!"

We have a sun conure and he is a grunter and a screecher. But he only starts screeching if he can't see or find his mate
( a Rainbow loorikeet we also have ). We used to talk to him all the time so he could talk but the rainbow loorikeet was the one that started talking. We are resigned to the fact our sun conure won't talk. We also have an African Grey, the rainbow loorikeet and the African Grey try to out talk each other.

I have a sun and I absolutely love her antics! She only mimics sounds but does not talk, even though we talk to her all the time. I dont know if males or females are talkers ( Mine is a female; I had her D.N.A. done ) but she certainly can screech! Like the other answerer's said you do not need a watchdog, they let you know when someone is there.Enjoy
their playful antics even if yours never talks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had one, he was very good at "grunty" like sounds.

no mine doesn't talk, but he mimmiks alot of sounds... so he might be able to if I taught him...
