You CAN by not downloading .exe files or any compressed folders. If you do download these type of files, you should scan them with your antivirus software before opening them. But if you're only downloading videos and music then I guarantee you that you won't be exposed to viruses. just make sure you get LimeWire from http://limewire.com or http://download.com and nowhere else.

Unfortunately, you can't. People download files with viruses on them knowingly and unknowingly, and when you download some of those files, you get them. The best thing to do is to make sure before you install those files, run a good virus program to check the files.

You want to do several things from the tools menu:
1. under uploads/slots change "uploads per person to zero"
2. under sharing/shared folders, make sure no folders are listed
3. under uploads/uploads bandwidth, move the slider all the way to the left
4. under "speed" check the box that says: "disable ultrapeer capabiliies"
5. When you have finished your downloading, always click on file/disconnect, so you don't leave in running in the system tray.

GOOD LUCK!!!!! I prefer frostwire although it is not guaranteed how long it will be before it gets the viruses............no problems so far though. Other than that you can scan whatever you download prior to use and hope it catches any viruses before you open it up to your computer. I have noticed that if the file is corrupted or infected my norton internet security catches it as the file is downloading so I can stop it before it infects the computer. Hope this helps!!
