Unless you had moved since the time you had defaulted to the time they filed the judgment, you could be a victim of sewer service.

Depending on how long ago the judgment was entered, and if they had failed to serve you properly, you may be able to have the judgment vacated.

You might go to the court clerk and request a "full" copy of the file, "including the service papers". Be sure to look over the service papers to see if you had been properly served.

You might also contact an attorney and see if you can get a free first consult. Take the file with you and have the attorney look it over.

If it is to late to vacate the judgment, you might request the court to disallow garnishment under hardship - if you can prove it would be a hardship.

edited to add - if the judgment has been quite awhile ago, find out the SOL for collecting on judgments in your state. If you are past the judgment SOL, or if they failed to renew the judgment (if allowed in your state) they cannot collect.

Write a letter of rebuttal and have it filed at the court where the judgement is going through. Send a copy to the creditor (the address will be on the judgement). Appear at the court date and make your case. They cannot garnish your wages until after a judge finds it legit. It is weird that you didn't receive the judgement in the mail with a senders receipt...

A lot of companies will sell your debt to another company who will try to collect on that debt, and then they may sell it to another company, and so on. Asset Acceptance LLC is probably a company that bought your debt from another company. As far as a judgement is concerned, when a company files a complaint with the courts to collect on a debt you owe, you do have a certain number of days to respond (I believe it is 60 days). If you do not respond in that time, the company can file for a default judgement to be entered. If you moved since the debt was incurred, the company trying to collect may not have been able to track you to your current address.
