Yes you can just plug it into a phone line.
When you use it, it's just like making a call and you will be changed as such.
So if it's a long-distance fax, you'll be charged for the usage.

Some have different features like AUTO-ANSWER that have to be set to allow it to answer instead of the phone.

Some people use a seperate phone line, but that costs extra.

You can get another phone # added to your line. I have Bell South and they gave us three #'s at no extra cost. I use the distinctive ring for my fax machine, and the last one I use for business. Call your phone company and see if they offer you the same deal, but in any case, it's best to have another line for your fax machine

in case you have "telephone In" *and* "telephone Out" ports on the hub, you need to (in theory) fax out utilising a fax device by your hub. slightly extra suggestions, if no longer the least complicated to war by: "telephone in" jacks are for incoming gadgets going into or passing interior the direction of the hub en direction to a "telephone Out" jack. it is, something hooked as much as the "telephone Out" jack would be for something coming interior the direction of the gadget (in interior the direction of the "telephone In") to a wall jack--interior the direction of the "telephone Out."
