He retired at the right time. I think Liston would have given him trouble and I know Marciano would have hung around to fight Ali and Ali was too quick for Marciano. Ali had those slashing jabs. Marciano would have been cut up.

Rocky Marciano was allways extremely fit he was a fanatic about training, I believe that he could have gone on for a fair time but he had done all that he wanted to do and had nothing more to prove. this man was probably the greatest heavyweight ever beating all that was put in front of him to achieve a perfect record, even the great Joe Louis Admitted that Rocky would have beaten him because Rocky crowded opponents and Joe did not like to be crowded, Rocky did not take as much punishment in the ring as some might think, he was a very skill full boxer who had the ability of riding punches to nullify the effect. Type the name Rocky Marciano into your Internet browser and find out how great he really was, and what other great fighters thought of him.
Chris.

Ric I believe that Rocky would have destroyed any of the contenders of that time. I believe he would have knocked out Floyd Patterson, Ingemar Johansson, Roy Harris, Brian London, Henry Cooper and other fighters of that era and would have wound up with a record of about 56-0-0 with 49 kayo's. He was quite simply better than any of those guys at that time and his great punching power would have been the deciding power in all of those fights. There is no way I can see any of those guys beating Marciano in my opinion. His last fight was against Moore in 1955 and he could have held on to the crown until 1960 at the age of 37. Pressure from his wife, a bad back, his manager taking money from him, and boxing becoming too much like a job was the main reasons he retired at age 32.

I gotta tell you Rocky Marciano's style was a lot like Arturo Gotti's, and as much as we respected Arturo's style of boxing it takes a toll on a fighter. To think of a heavyweight taking the type of punishment one must endure to fight that style, you gain a new respect for Marciano. 48 wins, yes, but his last half dozen major fights were serious wars and Rocky took a lot of punishment. He couldn't have continued in like manner for very much longer regardless of his age. He wasn't the type to duck people, and sooner more so than later a youngster would have got to him.

As it stands, history has a perfect 48 and 0 record and Rocky will always be in everyone's top ten.

As good as he was, Rocky was getting old by that point that's why he retired. He wanted to go out a champion and undefeated, which he did! You have to give him credit for going out on top and with no losses on record. Most boxers try to stay too long and that weakens their past accomplishments a little. Look at Tyson, Sugar Ray ect.

He probably would have started to wind down like most fighters do. He was smart to leave while his body was still in tact. Tyson and Hollyfield should go by his example. They both could lay me out with no problem but as boxing goes they've still got the heart but not the tools anymore. I went years wondering if Tyson was a cyborg he was so excellent in the ring.

Thats a hard question to say ric. Anything could have happened. First off he had to have the desire to keep fighting. If he didnt have that he would have definatly lost. Second he had to have the health. I think if he had the desire and health he could have went a few more yrs, but obviosly something was missing other wise he wouldnt of retired.

I buy into what he said at his last press conference." I probably had 2 or 3 good fights left" I dont think he would of lasted 5 years but definitely 2 more.

He could not have gone five more years. The guy took a real pounding.
He would have splattered Patterson, beat Ingo. If he could stand the abuse, he probably makes it to 1960 undefeated.

He wouldn't have remained undefeated that's for sure. If he had hung around until the 60s he would have eventually faced a young Cassius Clay, it would have been a massacre.
