IE7 is a major improvement over previous IEs. Whenver you close down an IE window, that IE will be closed down like normal, but whenver you have more than 1 tab opening within that IE window, IE will ask you if you whether want to close down all the tabs, you have choices to choose, either close them all down or cancel. If you just want to close one particular tab instead the whole IE window, click the mouse on that tab, a small red x will appear to the right of that tab, click on that x, it will close that tab down, but other tabs will stay put. Besides, you can arrange the tabs to your like, you can move them around, by hold down the mouse on that tab, and drag it to anywhere you want, and drop it. I love this feature.

That's because you're closing out the main tab. If you go down to the bottom of the taskbar, right click and close your tab from there, you won't close the internet down.

I would recommend trying another browser such as Firefox or Opera.
