You've gotten a lot of good suggestions for home remedies. These can all make you feel better, with the exception of eating peanut butter, as I can't imagine what that will do for you, but go ahead and try these things to ease your discomfort, particularly the vaporizer and drinking hot tea with lemon, honey and (don't tell anyone I told you this, but a few drops of whiskey in it, too -- not enough to make you drunk, it will help to loosen the phlegm so you can cough it up. However, my dear, you really need to see a doctor if your symptoms continue for more than a week, or if you're running a fever, because you could have an infection. The only way you'll clear it all up is with an antibiotic. Go to the doctor. If you're worried about paying, most docs will accept monthly payments, even a few dollars. As long as you pay them something every month, they will not turn you over to collection. Antibiotics will clear things up and you'll feel better fast, but be sure to take them all, even if your condition starts toimprove. Just keep taking them until they're gone. Otherwise, you can have a relapse. Good luck!

Do you smoke or have asthma? It sounds like yo may have some fluid in your lungs or it might just be a little wheezing. Try putting some Vick's on your throat and chest and run a vaporizer for the next couple of nights. If your are having pain take some Advil. You can take 2 tabs every 4 hours but no more than 6 in 24hrs, if this doesn't help within a couple of days you might need to see a doctor for possible bronchitis and may need an antibiotic.

Wow some of these answers are crazy. Ok the wheeze is some what concerning. This is an indication that you throat my be swollen, not alot just a little. Are you wheezing when you exhale or inhale? Is it in your lungs too? You may have allergy induced Asthma. Or it maybe something as simple as a common cold. Also I am concerned that you say it hurts when you cough. You need to get to a DR. you may have Asthma or Pneumonia. Asthma is treated with an inhaler and Pneumonia is treated with antibiotics. Please try to find your way to a DR. a walk in ER or something. You really need a chest x-ray.

You are not sick yet but you will be soon enough. It could be an upper repertory infection. Meaning you don't really feel sick you just tend to cough a lot and then the cough becomes more of a mucus. I've had that many of times.

I'm not sure, but it sounds a lot like emphysema you are describing, and if you are a smoker, that would be a primary cause.
The only thing I can really suggest is booking an appointment with yoour G.P (family doctor) and see what (s)he says about it, sorry.

That sounds like the symptoms of wheezing. If you have any pets, go outside and relax for a while so the symptoms will go away.
