the last deer i hit, i called the hp and they came
made sure it wasnt shot, then gave me a note,
so i could transport it home. n.c.
call the hp before you move it.

Hi! all depend the state you live in, but wherever you live, the best thing to do is to report it to police and wait for them to arrive and then you may ask the officer if you can take it home, (the deer) many times they will allow you to do that.

Contact the Fish & Game dept for your state for a specific answer. I believe it is not legal here but it is not enforced -- so damn many deer around here that if people didn't take them we would be @$$ deep in carcasses.

No, by law you are supposed to report the accident. If you have damage to your vehicle, it will be covered if you have comp/collision. If the animal is alive, but injured and not able to get up, it is against the law to shoot it, and put it "out of it's misery". Almost got a ticket for hunting out of season, for this very reason, couldn't believe it, I was trying to ease the poor thing's suffering.

Yes in NH>fish and game must tag it first.You must stay at the scene until fish and game arrive if you want to legally keep it.

You can not take the animal in Washington state. It just stays along the road and rots but you can't take it and use it.
