Because the two areas that women have far superior skills to men it is dishonesty and hipocrisy.
Telling you to "be yourself" is one method they use to try to hide their own shallowness. A transparent attempt, but they don't seem to mind.

Interesting...anyways, if you ask the qualities a girl wants in a guy, they might tell you a whole lot of things but the secret is, something always tend to replace those qualities. For example, choosing pepsi when there is no coco cola around, they both seem to do the trick, but water might have a different effect. To cut long story short, people develop taste and they get used to a lot of things. So why don't you try something new for a change, be yourself(very important) but use what you know to get what you want. Get it.

Most girls are brainwashed to pressure a man to be himself when they're with him, but in reality they want the qualities from her mate which make her feel most feminine. It's really a game they play to see if you will screw up under pressure and reveal negative things about yourself...they think it's good for the relationship, but it really hurts the romance and sexual attraction. When they ask you this just keep giving them funny answers, or say "It takes time to yourself around people, baby, and it's dangerous to try and be yourself all of a sudden! What do you think I am, an actor? (smiles)" If she keeps pressuring you, explain to her "baby you're going way too fast, way too soon" and if she keeps pressuring you, you have a decision to keep her or not because she is not normal. The point is,she can play her game, but you're going to stick to your game plan and keep being funny because it's good for the attraction. A mentally healthy girl will understand, because she'll won't fight her attraction, even though the brainwashing media, and feminist propoganda, like oprah, suggest women should do.

If you act the way you would naturally, they have a better idea about who you really are and can decide if you're what they're looking for or not (cool, funny, talented, controllable, a good lay, healthy, etc.). Then, if you don't fit, you can get dumped before they invest much.
So...
If you aren't an alpha male type or rich and you fake it, they might stay longer, but when they find out they'll be pissed and probably dump you anyway if they can.

lol, i now dont see myself as the type of girl you talk about 'wanting alpha male etc', my b/f is genuinely nice, simple guy, no big tricks (look how much weights i can lift etc, nothin like that), he was a friend (not best or anything like that for a year before we started dating), it took him being my friend for this long to realise what an amazing guy he was(generally because he never tried to do anything bigor amazing), only occured to me how great he was a month or two after i split with a guy i wasseeing for ages. sometimes u can't see whats right under ur nose - glad i eventually woke up though- seriously b true to urself, the right girl will eventually wake up to what an amazing guy u probably are!

girls want a guy who they know will take care of them. any guy can have alpa- male quailties, all they have to do is show that they care. being funny and cool depends on the chick. some girls don't think that one guy is funny while another girl thinks that he's hillarious. as girls get older, guys who are modest tend to attract more girls. i guess i'm trying to say (over used phrase, i know) be yourself.

That's what guys are doing wrong. Trying to be cool. Girls want guys to be themselves because they want to see who they really are, not some fake person. Besides, only shallow girls are attracted to alpha males and such. Maybe you're impressing the wrong girl.

girls love guys who are assertive and confident personality. so therefore, the guys who look good and flirt alot gets girls because they are making the approach on girls. Of course girls want to have a guy who are being themselves because who wants a fake person who is someone they're not? But we don't know wheter they're being themselves or not judging by their looks. But once they get to know the real person, they'll learn wheter the guy is a fake or just posers. Don't worry about changing yourself to get girls. All you have to do is just talk more to girls.

If a girl is saying 'be yourself', she means it. She wants you to be yourself. She might not be attracted to you for any number of reasons, not just because you're acting like some big tough guy.
If I told you to be yourself, I'd say it because I wanted to get to know the real you. When it comes right down to it, the tough guys who act like leaders are only attractive for so long. A guy who can be himself forever is the kind of guy girls want to end up with.

Of course girls like guys of all different types! In my experience, I DO like guys who are funny, but I also like it if they are a little shy, and pretty modest about themselves. If a guy is just funny, but is a plain, shallow jerk, then I wouldn't like him.

No one likes being lied to. Those guys who act like their cool to get girls never keep the girls they get. That kind of behavior is a bunch of lies that can damage a relationship. More power to ya for being yourself.
