Why aren't the most popular gods more like loving parents?

Question

For instance the Christian god wants to see the most severe punishment and even for minor things. Worship seems so silly and primitive. Why would intelligent beings go to a place were they are commanded to kneel and stand and bow and scrape to some entity that is supposed to be benevolent? Believing that this being requires complete love and adoration, individuals are told that they will be shunned from any sort of heaven or nirvana if the don't dote over this entity. When do religious people wake up and evolve beyond the stone age? You would be put in prison for child abuse if you treated your child the way the imagined Christian Judeo god treats his children. My children are far more respectful, loving, peaceful and well behaved than most religious people we know... why is that? All the religious families we know seem to have very serious behavioral problems with their children???

I think morality comes from the mind of the one who perceived it. and has nothing to do with God. Causation or the way the universe works is neither moral or immoral. Its just "is". We are environmental creatures and our environment is what teaches us to be respectful, well mannered, ect.... Therefor it does not matter what your belief system is as long as you teach you children how to behave. God does not make the kids obey. The parents do.
