Mouth hurts?

It isn't my mouth that hurts, but I don't know what to call it. It's the portion that connects a little below the bottom lip, except on the inside, to the mandible. I wear a retainer. Could this irritate it? It looks blood-red, and hurts.

This could irritate it. You may need to have your orthodontis adjust it so it doen't rub on it. In the mean time try rinsing with peroxide. DON'T SWALLOW IT! This will head off any infections.

go and get it checked out. the retainer may have caused the problem but you shouldn't let it go incase it turns into an abscess
