We were giving her fruit yogurt without realizing that it has about 16 grams of sugar in it. Also, the apple sauce we bought for her had about 28 grams of sugar in it. We just noticed this and have immediately stopped giving it to her, but I was wondering how bad it was. From the first few answers, it sounds like it was really bad, which is what I was fearing as well.

None only natural sugars in foods such as fruit and veg should be given and even then fruit intake should be moderate. Children don't need sugar in processed foods, we don't need sugar we just crave it cause it tastes good. If you don't give it to them they don't know what it is.

They should not have much things with added sugar. An occasional small piece of chocolate won't hurt them, nor will a few M&Ms for a treat, but I would not give that more than 3-4 times a month at this age. My son is 2 1/2 and he still has candy from halloween in his snack cupboard. Check in the yogurt section of your grocery store. Especially if you have a Safeway. They have yogurt made especially for babies/toddlers. My son LOVED these, and they are small containers. Also, check the lable on the applesauce. If it says "No sugar added" it is fine for her to have a small amount.

At 15 months of age, I would be striving to keep sugar OUT of her diet. At her age you are in charge of what she is eating, be responsible and feed her healthy while you still can.
I have 4 kids 14-22 and I wish I would have been more diligent with feeding them healthy foods. None of them have a weight problem but they definitely love the sugar, wish I had pushed the fruits and veggies more while they were young so that way of eating would have been what they knew and were used to.
It is funny as they are getting older, especially the adults, they are turning to a better way of eating!

why would you be feeding a 15 month old anything with sugar?

per your additional details:
yes, the content of sugar you have given her is high, but now that you realize it that's the important thing. Just keep reading the ingredient labels on what you buy and you'll do just fine.
on a side note - I will never understand why manufacturers put sugar in applesauce, it's plenty sweet on it's own LOL
