I am so sorry that your son has to endure this problem, it must be most upsetting for both him and yourself.
I am no authority with regard to this complaint, however I do know what it was like to have a plaster cast on that was similar when a child, but not for Perthes.
I have found a very informative website which may be of interest and have put the link below.
I have read what it says about the complaint, and it does state about the plaster casts. I would however ask all the questions you can to his surgeon to know exactly why in your sons instance. Especially as it concerns you so badly. It is very upsetting for you.

I do wish you son to be well very soon, and hope that the treatment works well for him.
