What is the fine for grand theft check writing charge?

Last year I was told by an overseas client that I had a wire pending. For $70,000. Since he had paid previously in amounts of $35,000 and $15,000 on 4 occasions I had no reason to think it wouldn't. When he gave me confirmation I wrote a check to my mother in law
for $16000 and to my wife to be put into a savings account. When he at first said the wire was delayed I told the bank to hold and redeposit. When he said he couldn't I asked everyone to cancel checks. The bank wouldn't cancel the 2 checks. And then apparently have tried to charge me with grand theft - I guess they don't know it's my mother in law and think I tried to defraud - does anyone have any thoughts? I've never even had a jaywalking ticket but to sleep at night would like to hear this will be dropped or if anyone knows the fine I can pay to avoid a jail sentence for something I didn't do - I have an autistic child and want them to stop

Depends on the state you live in. In New Jersey, if it is your first time you could get probation with a community service, also would be required to pay back the amount, plus damages.

Mostlikly that is what could happen. But remember Innocent until proven guilty

If the monetary business enterprise did not lose any funds then there's a good threat to get that dropped...with an lawyer needless to say. although if those assessments have been cashed via your monetary business enterprise and u didnt return the money, you're able to have been arrested already. And for grand theft, there's no high quality, you're able to in all probability visit reformatory or be positioned on probation or the two. If a twelve months has exceeded, I wouldnt subject too lots approximately it. Grand theft is a legal and that they wold have picked u up already

You should be seeking a lawyer now buddy and hope they can save your a**.This kind of stuff happens all the time but if you get legal help and explain your side of the story you will have a better chance of not having to face any fines or jail time.Good luck

Might depend on where you live. In CA, USA grand theft is considered anything over $400.00 in value. If the police took a report, they then forwarded it to the City's district attorney's office, they determine if charges will be filed. You need to call them and see where the case is and attempt to explain to them what happened.
