If by "this summer" you mean "last summer" (2006), then the answer is because a terrorist group called Hezbollah, operating out of Lebanon and without the sanction of the Lebanese govt, captured Israeli troops and lobbed rockets at Israeli cities.
So, Israel went after the people who were attacking them, which meant crossing into Lebanon. So, while they did technically invade Lebanon, Lebanon as a country as not their target. In fact Lebanon didn't even get involved until weeks later, when they created a buffer between Isreal and Hezbollah.
You should have been around then. The direct information coming in was a lot more accurate than whatever you're quoting from.

Well actually there were more soldiers caught in Lebanon and the others were killed and those 2 were "kidnapped" by Hezbollah... Israel said this war it's against Hezbollah, not Lebanon, but this didn't stopped them from killing 1000 Lebanese civilians and destroying the whole country...
Anyway according to the last news,it seems that the war was planned 4 months before the kidnapping of the soldiers and that the soldiers were just an excuse to invade Lebanon...Israel definitely doesn't care about them now....

Vlad- Hezbollah abducted Israeli infantrymen and fired missiles in to northern Israeli villages and cities. those missiles have been aimed in the direction of harmless civilians- additionally, Israel despatched warnings to the civilians of Lebanon telling them to evacuate, and that Israel became going to invade, because of the fact they have been at conflict with Hezbollah, not Lebanon. via warning the civilians, they took out the factor to ask your self making themselves vulnerable. the actual questions is, why has Russia funded Syria, Iran and Lebanon? Are they soliciting for difficulty, you asked the question to make Israel look like the undesirable guy, while that's Russia that's the difficulty maker

Two Israeli soldiers were captured in Israel. Were they spying on Lebanese inside their own country?
Hezbollah layed down a fire of ketyusha rockets as a distraction before the kidnapping. They must have been prophets, huh? They knew in advance that the Israelis would cross the border and just needed a little help?
Or do you think that Israel invaded bacause since 1979 rockets have been fired on Israeli cities?
Rather than listening to either Jazeira news sources OR CNN, read some books. There's one you might be interested in, written by a Lebanese native who witnessed every Lebanese Israeli conflict up-close and personal!

You obviously don't understand what happened.
Israel was not fighting Lebanon, they were fighting Hezbollah who is in Lebanon. Israeli soldiers were attacked by Hezbollah and in the attack they killed 3 Israeli soldiers and kidnapped 2. No one was "caught spying." And they were never put in jail by the government.
Israel has a right to defend itself and retaliate to such attacks. Stop posting this non sense.
al-jazeerah is a propaganda machine, you can not believe what you hear there.

OK, guy, Hezbollah, is a terrorist organization based in and controlling southern Lebanon with the aim of wiping Israel out. They were shooting rockets into northern Israel. Israel asked them to stop. Hezbollah would not. Israel warned Hezbollah that if they did not stop attacking Israel, Israel would have to put a stop to it. Hezbollah ignored the warning and killed several people, including women and children, with their rockets. Israel was left with no choice but to defend itself, which in this case meant to go into Lebanon and stop Hezbollah from firing their rockets. Further they had kidnapped two Israeli soldiers. Israel wanted them back. Hezbollah refused even after they were given the warning.
If the US was firing rockets into Canada, would you not expect Canada to defend themselves? If the US had kidnapped two Canadian soldiers (Does Canada have soldiers?), you would just shrug your shoulders and say, "Too bad?"
How about if next holiday, you visit Israel and have a friend translate the news for you? Make sure you stay in northern Israel so you can spend your holiday in fear and have a taste of what the Israelis go through everyday just because they have some crazy notion that they have the right to exist? Don't forget to ride the buses, too. I think you anti-Semitic.

The aim of this war was to destroy Hezbollah. Israel (as always) thought that it could destroy its enemies in short time, also Israel expects to destroy it enemies and get nothing in return. Israel planned to destroy Hezbollah in 2 weeks, so it had to go into war with Hezbollah regardless of the cause of this war, fortunately, Israel found a convincing excuse. But, when Israel realized the strength of Hezbollah they started targeting civilians and infra-structure in order to put Hezbollah under national pressure from the Lebanese people. That didn't work either, because the Lebanese people were a prominent example of bravery. But I think that Nazrallah tried to stop this war because it was driving his country 20 years back in time. And I also think that USA used Israel as a tool in this war.

The Israelis did what they had to do to provide for the national defense. Some terrorists snatched to soldiers and fired upon innocent civilians, but their the innocent party right? Israel invaded completely unprovoked to have a little fun i guess

They got fed up with being shot at from across the border. I suppose that if Americans fired missiles into Canada, you would not be pleased. The business about Israeli spies in Lebanon is a fantasy.

I thought summer, at least for North America was during the months of June, July and August. Of course CNN just bombards their side of the story. I read online newspapers from other countries and its amazing to read the amount of stuff that never makes it to the news. I have even encountered news about my own country that never made it into the news ether. It comes as no surprise.
How sad.
