No SH*T!
I am agnostic and I believe I know way more about the bible then most christains, because I have read and researched the entire thing. Most christians just pick out the lovey dovey verses and totally ignore all the violence and hatred.
But to answer your question, most christains are very judgemental and when someone offends them, they scream and go into a tirade and start assuming and accussing, thus they claim we know nothing.
(but i have a feeling you already knew that!! :-P )

Judging by the kind of questions that many atheists on here ask, and the kind of statements that they make, it seems obvious that many only have a superficial knowledge about Christianity at best.
For example, some people on here keep trying to prove the Bible wrong by parroting an old objection to Leviticus 11:5 that is easily rebutted by reading the footnote to that verse (in newer Bibles) that points out that this verse was mistranslated in the original King James. You would have thought that anybody who made it through sophomore level English in High School knows what a "footnote" is, and should understand the concept of "you are reading a translation, not the original text" (hint: the Bible wasn't originally written in English).
And so on. It is rare that anyone on Y!A posts a truly thoughtful or insightful objection or question that indicates that he really understands what Christianity teaches.
You cannot make Christianity look stupid by acting stupid yourself.

because if they knew The Truth they would not be non-Christians... The Bible of The True Christian Faith is not intended for the non-believer... Only those open to the leading of God through The Holy Spirit will find, in The Bible, what God has for them there.....I do not give a hoot how many times someone has " read" The Bible... If God was not leading them they got nothing from it... satan, the prince of darkness and prince of this earth can quote the Bible word for word in every language known to man and angels... But... he has no "understanding" of it... all he can do is exactly what the non-believers do who try to use quotes to start arguments.......as for "knowing" about God... I have never met any one who Truly Knew God... who rejected Him...... no one of The True Christian Faith has ever rejected God... and never will...... there is no such thing as an ex-christian

I think it's mainly a matter of ideologicial disagreement. While non-christians may have large knowledge of the bible and the basics of the religion, christians would think that, by not being a full believer in the religion, the non-christians do not truly understand them or their religion. After all, could non-christians take someone seriously who does not truly believe in the principles of science? [Note: I am not picking a side on this issue, I am simply trying to explain my answer]

Because some Christians think that, for example, athiests like myself never bothered to read the bible, we just said, 'oh, we evolved and the big bang created the universe.' Well, no. I weighed the facts, and then became an athiest. I became an athiest because I felt it was more plausible. Just because I'm not christian doesn't mean I haven't read the bible. Thats like saying I know absolutely nothing about Harry Potter because I don't like it (but I do in real life). Just because I don't agree with something doesn't mean I don't know about it.

Most of the people I see posting attacks on Christianity here or attempting to hold the religion up to ridicule do display a great deal of ignorance. Either that, or they are simply misrepresenting what the religion is in order to attack it.
Take this question of yours, for example:
"Since the Egyptians and Romans were such excellent record keepers?
Why do many people choose to believe the Bible as infallible instead with its many discrepancies (many accounts do not agree with each other at all and Biblical scholars and scientists agree that certain things listed are impossible) while saying "the Romans/Egyptians just forgot to write that down or they lost it somewhere" when something does agree with history as we know it? It was never written down because it never happened. "
Nobody says "the Romans/Egyptians just forgot to write that down or they lost it somewhere." The main reason they don't say that is that the Romans and Egyptians were not excellent record-keepers and we only have fragments of what they did write. So where did you get this idea if you know so much?

Many are so brainwashed they couldn't imagine anyone having been exposed to religion could leave it. I for one was exposed to religion for years then having truly read the bible in its entirety and seeing the true practices of the so called religious people, this hypocrisy made me look at my religion with a more critical eye. Logic and search for the truth won out. If the bible was the word of god it would be flawless. It is replete with error of history, fact, and shows as personified a psychotic god that approves of murder, genocide, rape, and human sacrifice. My knowledge of the bible exceeds most of those apologists who fire off obnoxious statements then look for an "amen".

It is very disturbing to me, as a Christian Preacher, to admit that many times I have come across those that do not believe having a very good knowledge of God's Word.
But then again I know Bernie Kosar, a former quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.
Or is it I know of him.
So it is with those that have read the Bible and yet deny God.
They only know of Him.
As a Preacher, writer and Evangelist of the Christian Faith I KNOW GOD and His Son Jesus Christ.

I suppose you were "born" Christian, right?Brother, if you turned from Christ, you were never of Christ. I obviously don't know what brought on this decision against Jesus, but if you are not real with Him, you are not given understanding of the things of God.You may know the words and such, but you obviously lack discernment in understanding. There is a difference between knowledge and understanding.
