As an agnostic, I am always open to the possibility of an unkown greater being,

HOWEVER, I am a strong disbeliever of religion- meaning that I don't believe the "god" will be anything that Christians/ Muslims claim him/her/it to be. I think the descriptions that many religious people give their "god" is absolutely rediculous. It is hard for me to understand why a god would value butt kissing over human kindness and tolerance.

What are your thoughts on my views?

An 'unknown greater being' is a good way to put it.

Well, the God I know is awesome. He made me in the image of Himself. I believe that He created the Heavens and the Earth and all that is in it. I don't believe that there was a big explosion and bam there it is. Nor do I believe that we are descendants of monkeys apes whatever. So, I know for a fact that my God is real because no one on this Earth could have brought me out of the type of mess I was doing. He has done so much for me and I know that it wasn't mere man that could do it. And for that, I honor Him, I love Him and will always exalt Him until He comes back for me. Also, a person that praises God, will also have loving kindness and patience as those are fruits of His Holy Spirit.

I agree with you. I'm a strong atheist when it comes to the various gods people believe in (God, Allah, Zeus, Odin etc) but I am not arrogant enough to say I know for certain there is no such creature.

I am open minded to the possibility, though I think it is unlikely.

A sufficiently advanced being would appear to have "god-like" qualities to us.

I don't disbelieve in God.
But I find it hard to accept that the God that is being "marketed", or shoved down the throats into millions of impressionable children and vulnerable people is a petty God that would cast us in Hell just for not believing in Him or doing things as and at His own whim - sounding very much like a human being, a human dictator, or ancient Lord/Emperor.

I believe God is compassionate and loving, in ways that transcend human understanding of Him, and certainly not the petty eternal being religion seems to make Him out to be.

I also wish that people would stop "speaking" for God and let God do the "speaking". (Like for example, doing things in God's name.)

I agree with you. It's too bad for everybody that "religious" people associate spirituality with forcing themselves to believe in the "literal truth" of fables that the average 8 year old with an unwashed brain would toss out the window.

"butt kissing"?
i would not say that...
if their is a God then we should find out what he wants and do what he says....
but human kindness and tolerance is not forbidden, it is encouraged in Christian faith and ignored in Islam.
also none of the things that the "Christian God" asks violates human rights and anything else that is moral.
Sorry i can not say the same thing about Islam....

You are a Deist my friend

Deism is defined in Webster's Encyclopedic Dictionary, 1941, as: "[From Latin Deus, God.Deity] The doctrine or creed of a Deist." And Deist is defined in the same dictionary as: "One who believes in the existence of a God or supreme being but denies revealed religion, basing his belief on the light of nature and reason."

Deists base their belief in the existence of God on their observations of design found throughout nature. The Discovery Institute in Seattle, WA share this belief and developed their theory of Intelligent Design as an alternative theory of origins to compete with Creationism and Evolution.

Most Deists believe that God created the universe, "wound it up" and then disassociated himself from his creation. Some refer to Deists as believing in a God who acts as an absentee landlord or a blind watchmaker. A few Deists believe that God still intervenes in human affairs from time to time.

They do not view God as an entity in human form.

They believe that one cannot access God through any organized religion, set of beliefs, rituals, sacraments or other practice.

God has not selected a chosen people (e.g. Jews or Christians) to be the recipients of any special revelation or gifts.

Deists deny the existence of the Trinity as conceived by Christians. They often view Jesus as a philosopher, rabbi, teacher and healer, but not as the Son of God.

They believe that miracles do not happen. The "world operates by natural and self-sustaining laws of the creator."

A practical morality can be derived from reason without the need to appeal to religious revelation and church dogma. "Most Deists believe humans are too innately noble to require supernatural coercion and threats of eternal damnation to behave morally."

Most Deists view God as having departed from nature. Thus, prayer makes no sense to them. However, some pray to express their appreciation to God for his works. The latter generally do not ask for special privileges, or try to assess the will of God through prayer, or ask God to perform miracles.

Most Deists do not actively evangelize the public.
