The Inland Revenue contacted me last summer telling me I'd paid to much tax in 2005 and they asked for my work details. I got round to sending everything off in November and got payment in January I didn't have long to wait once I sent everything off.

I've done it three times now and each time it has taken just a couple of weeks and they were quite helpful.Also each time they added interest on what they owed me.Keep at it if you really think they owe you,if you still have problems talk to an accountant but they rob you more than the tax man.

The 2 times I got money back from the IRS, they just sent me a letter with a cheque, they done the calculations for me, and even explained how it balenced out, one for a cheque for £90, and the other for £480.

I did several years ago.

From memory, it took just over 2 months.

**I bypassed my local branch and went direct to HQ.
