Are the water based acrylic paints used for ceramics and arts and crafts the same as those used in acrylic paintings? The paints I have a good quality, but I am just not sure. I am a new artist and am justing branching out....thank you for your help. ; )

I want to use the paints on canvas. Thanks.

The arts and crafts paints in the little bottles are not as color fast or as good a quality as the acrylic paint in the tubes. There is a new product on the market-water based oil paint that can be mixed with acrylic paint for a different texture and feel. Tube acrylic paints can be made thicker or thinner depending on something called a matte medium-it's a liquid acrylic(colorless).

The water based acrylic paints are NOT the same paints used to make acrylic paintings.

Your always free to try. Acidents or different ways of doing things usually make people famous in the art world, lol.

Good luck fellow artist

I think so...but there are higher quality and lower quality paints. Personally, I would go with liquitex brand if you are just starting out. That is relatively inexpensive stuff, but of decent quality to actually make paintings on canvas/wood/whatever.

Basically yes UNLESS your ceramic paints are for firing. THEN no on the ceramic paints. Chemically they are the same if they are not fired kind.

some arcrylic paints are waterbased.

some arcrylic paints are oilbased.

either would be fine for painting on canvas! everyone has their own personal preference, so test out each one and see which one works best for the type of finish you would like to recieve.

Good Luck!
