Though I knew no one personally, I was in Montgomery County, just north of Philadelphia
I remember the horrible traffic that lasted most of that day
I recall going to a Walmart and there were people in there hoarding what they could get
I packed my possessions and Left PA the end of the 12th, and drove through lower Mahatten, They had raised the Toll for the George Washington Bridge for extra security reasons,
the city @ 11:30 at night smelled foul, there were little kabutz set up along the Henry Hudson parkway, canvas topped open air tenting for those who had been displaced
I walked along realizing that the majority of people who work the Volunteer fire dept or rescue were also men who rode on the back of garbage trucks. The rubbish had accumulated to over-flowing proportions andd there were Bees' all over and they stayed with me most of my trip north into Massachusetts. I spoke with and saw lots of people who were enroute to NYC to get loved ones' possessions , pets, children. It was a truly heartbraking tragedy no other way to talk about it. Certainly dont ever want to experience it again. Phili is just minutes from NYC or Washington DC by Plane.....it was sort of freightning. I met men enroute to go pick through the remains from Vermont, I purchase a meal for a group. There were literally lines of machinery lined up to get down to the World Trade Center area, I recall them talking about the fumes entering hospital ventilation systems, and I recall the smell of the plastics/other chemicals that were dispersed by the burnning remains

Just about everyone knows someone. The office I work for lost two clients. My friend who's a cop lost his best friend and brother in law. My friend's husband, who's a firefighter, lost everyone in his house that was on that day.

Yes, I know someone who was on one of the planes. Every year I call her family and we share our memories of the good times, and we always end up crying.
