NEED OPINIONS! what's your take on this..?

so there's this guy who SAYS he likes me. a lot. my relationship with him started with me really opening up to him (because His best friend had just dumped me(about a month ago)) so he became a Really good friend to me and was there for me. when we talked on the phone he told me about this girl he really likes and how he talks to her on the phone all the time (so it wasn't me) but so then we went and saw a movie together as friends, and the next night he texted me telling me he Really liked me A Lot.. i was everything he looked for in a girl... he really cared about me and all stuff like that. but i didn't want to rebound so i told him i only saw him as a friend. but then i realized just recently over the past month that i actually Had started to develop more than friend feelings.. so we just had our first date on monday and it was sooo Fun! and i definitely got feelings for him back.. so then that night after our date he text me: i know this is lame but i wanted to hold your hand...

like all night but i wasn’t sure if you wanted to move in that direction at all. so i basically told him i did and now we are going on another date soon to go see a movie.. so i know he’ll probably hold my hand. but so he also told me that he feels happy being near me and all this stuff like that. but Then a couple days after our last date he told me he was going out with this girl on what i assume was a date, because it’s the girl that he had liked forever Before liking me.. so do you think he Still likes her? who does he like me or her? and also he told me that one first time when we were just “hanging out” that he’s not into the whole boyfriend girlfriend terms thing or love, and stuff like that. and in class one day (when we were Just friends still too) when asked if he thought it was okay to date several girls at once he said Yeah.. so is he just a player, or despite those facts does he still sincerely Like me..?? because he says all this cute stuff like he does.. but

i don’t know because of all those things he’s said before and that he went out with that other girl. what are your opinions on how and why he’s acting like this..???! all answers GREATLY appreciated! sorry this was so long! :)

THANKS for the answer Geez! and actually my ex Does know that this guy likes me.. because he called me at His house. and my "ex" was never Officially my boyfriend.. because he found some other girl first and led me on before it actually got called that.. but yeah.

He is trying to be a player, just to see how far he can get with it. If your ex doesnt know about you and him (chances are he doesnt) then he may be losing his friend too. So tell him to take a hike. He just says what you want to hear.
