technically, YOU have the right to the puppies because you are the owner of the birth giving female. BUT, it's best to negotiate something out with your neighbor so it can remain socially ok between the two of you.

Was this a planned litter or an "opps" thing? In all fairness, I would give the neighbor one of the pups, since without his male, you would have no puppies at all. Technically speaking, I believe the puppies would be yours since your dog carried them and gave birth to them and they are in your place of residence. But if it is such an issue, maybe you should as an attorney. But remember, if these are purebred puppies, they cannot be registered if you do not have the male's information.

You would have the rights to the puppies. Afterall you are going to keep these puppies under your roof and feed them solids when they get older. Your doing most of the work. However I suppose giving rights to one or two of the puppies to the neighbour would be nice.

If your dog is the mother, then your neighbors have no say as far as what happens with the puppies - unless you had a prior agreement.

You do! The mother is yours so the pups are your to do what you want. The burden of cost is yours too. So your neighbors dog may have done the deed but after that there is no obligation on your part.

The owner of the mother is responsible for the puppies. The sire's owner has no rights.

well, Who is going to pay to worm the momma dog when the pups are 2 weeks old to be sure tehy don't have roundworm (as example)

You & your neighbor need to work out maternity vet care & puppy vet care otherwise both of you should be arrested for animal neglect.

If your neighbors agrees to share the expense of pre-natal & post-natal care & feeding, then by all means the two of you shoud split the litter 50/50. If you are paying vet care & they are paying none & this was not a prior arranged paper certifiable breeding... then I say they are yours & you are on your own & PLEASE TAKE PROPER CARE TO IMMUNUZE, SOCIALIZE & PROPERLY ORIENT THEM INTO THE WORLD BEFORE THE AGE OF 6 WEEKS so they will make wonderful pets!!

To be neighborly and prevent difficulty, it might be nice to offer him a pup and allow him to choose one before you either sell or give away any of them. I believe in some cases the owner of the male dog will prearrange for the pick of the litter if it is a planned breeding between the animals.

well since the puppies will be conceived on the property you own or whomever your with owns it..then you do 100%...but would be best to split the puppies in half between you and the owners of the male dog...
