do you have to be a better player to play the r7 tp's

Hi I actually work for TaylorMade so I think I can probably give you a pretty good answer here. The r7's and r7 TP's both have "inverted cone technology" in the clubface, however the inverted cone is slightly larger in the standard TP which gives the club a little bit more forgiveness, but in turn gives the TP's a little more workability. The TP's also have a slightly higher center of gravity which will give the ball a lower flight than the standard r7's. The TP head is also smaller than the standard r7, has very little offset, and the soles are thinner.

And as far as having to be a better player to play the TP's... you don't have to be a better player to play them, though they were designed with low handicappers in mind. My suggestion is to hit both of the irons and see which on performs better for you, then make a decision.

Hope that answers your question and I hope you find the right TaylorMade iron for your game. Check out the website below for more info on the r7 iron.

Kind of. The Tp's have a thinner sole, meaning that there is less club behind the ball. They are more workable for more experienced players that can maneuver their shots. For a higher handicap player, the Tp's may be harder to hit because they have a smaller sweet-spot and need to be hit more precise to go straight.
