Is a hair cut like a trim, or will they give you a new hairstyle? What is styling then?

Ask for a "shaping" if you want to keep your current hair style and length but just need to have it tidied up. Explain what you expect.

Ask for a trim if you need to take off some length & state you want to keep the current hair style just shorter. Be clear about how much you want taken off - demonstrate/point.

Ask for a hair cut - new hair style if you want a change. Bring photos so the stylist can see what you mean and ask for his/her input.

When they give you a hair cut they only cut off hair. But if they do hair styling, they cut your hair and them they do your hair in a new style you want it to be.

a cut is where they remove length

hairstyling is where they style it with wax/gel/hairspray

example: you get a short hair cut, and then they style it up (spike it) with wax.
