i have had him for a week now but today while laying on floor he started twitching and trembling. he did not pass out, but couldnt stand. after a minute or so he finally stood but had trouble walking for a few minutes. seems fine now. scared me to death. i know he hasnt been into any poison or anything. usually with epilepsy their head jerks back and such but his didnt. he was fully concious. i was ready to rush to vets but he is fine now. any ideas? i live miles back in the boonies, no vets nearby on a saturday nite for sure.

ahh he's five years old. owners have no idea, never noticed anything before. they have just informed me they no longer want him, cant afford to feed him, so i guess he's mine.

well, it looks like he is yours. find out what vet the dog was to , the last time he was at one. (if they can't afford to feed him, chances are he hasn't been to one in a while) but find out who the vet is.
5yrs old is middle aged for a ST. They only live 9-10 yrs. Could have been a seizure, a mild one. can't say. And if it was, the only thing you can do when one happens, is just let them have it. make sure they can't hurt themselves. but don't restrain or any thing.

yes, it always seems that these things happen on the weekends when the only place to go is an E Room. and they charge out the ***.
the owners probably have no idea of what is wrong. or they do, and that's why they left him with you. at least they didn't do something horrific to get rid of him. if you are willing to take on the resposibility of keeping him, just keep an eye on him. then on monday get him to a vet. maybe call the vet they used, because they may have some history on him.

i commend you if you keep him .. i most likely would..
let us all know if he's OK or not.

i, myself am a sucker for recue stories. and this IS one. just cause he was dumped on you, doesn't mean you aren't rescuing a 4 legged friend. the owners most likely can't face this themselves. so you are the hero likely here.

You need to make some new friends!

It is possible that he just has a muscle cramp, like a charley horse in people, did you have him out for exercise or did he spend some time earlier running around, it could be he is slightly out of condition. May need to slowly build up exercise starting with leash walks on level ground and build slowly from there

If it was a seizure it was very mild, just keep and eye on him in the event it happens again, if he is responsive to you while it is happening than not likely a seizure.
Good luck with him

Definitley sounds like a seizure to me. They always dont jerk their heads back but usually they do go stiff while in the seizure and also can seem awake and with it. Get a hold of the people and see if the dog has a history of this or take him to a vet ASAP. Keep him calm and keep a close eye on him.

I might have been a seizure but dont hold me to that. You dont say how old he is. But if he is still on the young side than I would contact the owner if you can and tell them of this. Maybe this has happened before and they know what it is.

That sounds like he may be developing Wobblers Sydnrome-something that typically afflicts large dogs. I would contact the friend and ask him what he wants you to do.

He could have had a stroke, please go to the vet and tell him what you have told us on here it could save his life and save you lots of money later down the line.
