I noticed that my pregnant cat wasn't visible for about a day and at night i went to check for her in the basement and i broght her food so she could eat too. i knew she had the kittens becuase i heard them. But, I did not SEE or LOOK to find them so that she would not be nervous or afraid and so that she would not abandon her litter like she did last summer. I saw that she was staring at me while she feed her kittens (but i still didnt see them) and when i got upstairs i didnt hear any more meowing and the next day she was outside. Today i went to feed her again and she went near the basket where she had given birth and she started to lick herself and had no concern for the kittens. I tried to look for them but i couldnt find them. WHY is she DOING this?! and is it possible that the kittens are still alive? PLEASE HELP!

she did this before and you let her get pregnant again? She shouldnt be bred, she probably is being disturbed too much. What you need to do is get a big box or a small room like a bathroom, you need to take her kittens and move them into this and confine her with the kittens. She will care for them, also she may not have abandoned them, Cats dont spend the entire day in the nest. They go about there business like every day, and run around being cats, only visiting the kittens on occasion. It draws less attention to the kittens and keeps them safe if she doesnt spend that much time with them. Since your cat is indoor/outdoor and not strictly indoor cat she is acting more like a wild cat. If you are worried shes not feeding them you need to do the confinment or you will be handraising all those kittens. Also she needs to not be able to get outside or risk her moving them on you and moving them somewhere outside.
THEN DO ME A HUGE favor, spay this cat as soon as the kittens are weaned. NO MORE KITTENS....
ADDITIONAL INFO: May i mention that your story isnt making any sense, first you say you hear them, you watched her nurse them but didnt look. You were down there looking at her nursing but didnt see the kittens? VERY STRANGE did you shield your eyes lest you burn them with your X-RAY vision? Then you say she was by the BASKET she gave birth to them in, so you knew she had them in a basket, then you say you cant find them cause you cant go downstairs because the baesment isnt finished and your basement is a 1/4 of a mile long. THATS THE LONGEST BASEMENT IN THE WORLD! WOW. So my suggestion is!!!!!!! Deal with it... nothing you can do if you let her go there to have them. Cant give you any suggestions if your not down there on your hands and knees digging around looking for them. If they are 1/4 of a mile in the dirt of your unfinished basement then how do you think your going to do anything for them? Let alone us? You got to hope she takes care of them and they dont die, then still go get her spayed. Poor kittens I will be thinking of them and wishing this never had happened to them.

First, I'd look for the kittens!!!! I'd look outside since you allowed her to get out after just having kittens, that was very stupid. When and if you find them alive, bring them and the mom inside. Keep the mom inside. If she doesn't feed the kittens you will have to bottle feed them, but at this point chances are they will not survive. When the time is right, take the mom to get spayed and you won't be going through this again. She should have been spayed before the last litter since you are letting her go outside. Didn't you think that she could get pregnant or what?

She may have been killed by another animal or is lost. That is most likely what happened. Take the kittens to a vet or start feeding them SKIM milk that is warmed to room temp (put it in the microwave for like 10 sec). Then as they grow older mix the milk with canned cat food to make a slushy slurpable food.

What do you mean are they still alive? Look for them! They didn't disappear! Try not to touch them too much, cause the mother won't like the smell of them. If she won't feed them you will have to feed them with a baby bottle, and when you get a chance call a vet and ask what you should be adding to the milk that your gonna feed them. If I was you I would poke a bigger hole in the nipple too. Good luck.

One four letter word to resolve this problem: S*P*A*Y.
There are cats that for whatever reason consistently reject their litters. A vet can tell you the possible reasons why, but my question for you is this: With all the 1,000's of unwanted animals who are euthantized or abandoned every single day.......why do you not spay this cat? Maybe it doesn't seem important since she leaves her kittens to starve to death (always a pleasant way to go), so they technically can't reproduce, but still.....how simple would it be to avoid this particular problem with your cat and her unwanted litters...and avoid any potential domino effects for more unwanted animals from their offspring (if any) in the future????
Sorry, this one is a DUH. You are asking the wrong questions because the whole problem is EASILY prevented! Wake up, call your vet, and take some responsibility for your pet and show some mercy for these poor kittens that she continues to abandon.....

This site will help with the care of the kittens.... I would keep them in a closed room with the mother (if it's safe) or keep them alone with you and ensure they are warm and eating enough. If you are concerned about the kittens well being get to the vet IMMEDIATELY
Good luck

Maybe she felt threatened with the male there and has hidden them outside somewhere or dropped them down the hole. Be persistant and search for them inside and out because if she has abandoned them you may have to raise them, it you can find them in time. Get her spayed, she obviously is not a good mum if she has done this before.
