what + means is that you get extra money. Assume the base number is 100, so +180 means you win $180 and risk 100 or 1.8 to 1 for your money. If you are betting an underdog at +320, it means that you will win $320 if you bet 100. Total return is you get your winnings 320+100 for your original bet back. On the other hand, if you bet -150, it means you are risking $150 to win 100. If you bet -250, you are risking $250 to win $100. If you cash out the ticket, you will get $100 and then your original bet of 250 back for $350.
