I have a STRONG family history of breast cancer. A total of 7 women in the past four generations have been diagnosed only one is still alive. My mother was diagnosed at 28 and died 11 years ago. Anyway I mentioned to my assistant, during a girly conversation, that I was going to wait until I was diagnosed with cancer to have a breast job. She got upset with me and said I shouldn't say that.

I feel that facing the reality that my chances of getting breast cancer is much greater than not (I have the genetic marker too) Therefore I don't feel that I am being doom and gloom, but realistic. I also want my daughters to prepare emotionally in the event that I am diagnosed so they know it isn't a death sentance but a disease that we can fight and win!

I neglected to add that I started having annual mammograms at 30.

I too have a strong history of breast cancer... I also (unfortunately) also have a ridiculous insurance carrier. My GYN constantly refused to write an order for a mammogram - even though I've felt lumps since age 35.

(Yes, would LOVE to be able to get another insurance carrier to allow me to change docs... no can do.)

Anyway - her attitude was that I was just feeling cysts, so no big deal.

I finally got her to order my first one last September. I'm 43.

They found many dozens of little water cysts... naturally benign.
They found a few enlarged lymph nodes... benign.
Then there was another lump....
My doc couldn't even look me in the eye.

Lumpectomy - benign as well.

I agree with you. Should the real thing come back from analysis as that dreaded cancer... I'll be having the full breast job - i.e. reconstruction - as well.

Be patient with your assistant. We all fear the big "C" in varied ways... perhaps more when facing the possible loss of people we care about than ourselves. She probably doesn't even want to think of the possibility of losing you. You should be honored. Not many folks can say they feel that way about their boss!

I appreciate your indomitable spirit... Now THERE's something worth catching!
Peace. --De

It's a weird thing with cancer. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and have accepted it'll probably kill me one day.

The difficult bit is beating it long enough ;)

YOU ARE BEST TO GET A MAMOGRAM NOW , WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER TO GET A BREAST JOB..
THAT'S LIKE ME SAYING, I AM GOING TO WAIT UNTIL I HAVE A HEART ATTACK FIRST THEN I WILL LOSE WEIGHT AND LOWER MY DIABETES FIRST BEFORE I GET KIDNEY DISEASE FROM IT..I DONT KNOW, GIRL YOU DO NOT MAKE SENSE!
