I have a qeustion. I'm 16 years old and I am about to start a partime job and I on top of that I have a good little bit of money ( 200-300) from my brithday and christmas and babysiting the qestion I have is.... Is there some kind of Credit card, Debit Card or something like that I coudl get without a parent signature? No I dont want to charge anything and use credit all I want is to be able to put my money ona card for easier acess but I dont want to get a Visa Gift Card because you can't get the money off it once you put it on it and that presents a promblem when you go places that don't accept cards. ex: fairs, school lunch, and other places.. So I really would liek something thats the same as a Visa Gcard but so I could still take my money in and out of it, but I can't get anyone to sign for me because my mom at the moment doesn't want to sign for credit or debit cards and such.. Would paypal be the same? or do u have to be 18? I'm confussed and I start my job next week help!

Hmmm, You really would have to go into a bank & ask about what types of accts. they offered. I think that you have to be 18 or have someone sign with you...but it may be possible to give them $$ to put into a savings acct. for you & they may give you a debit card for that acct. I don't know if any bank does that but I do know that banks are really trying hard to get customers right now. If they do it, they would have to put a restriction on it that they would not pay any money out that you didn't already have deposited into that acct.

I doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck. I admire the fact that you are trying to do something like this. I'm sure they will be impressed too. Ask them if they have any ideas for you if they say no to your request.

Try the Visa Buxx card... your mom doesn't have to sign for a credit or debit card, or even have a Visa card of her own. It is basically a prepaid Visa card, but your mom would need to be the one to deposit funds to the account. You could give her your money and ask her to do that for you. Typically, you do need to be 18 to open a checking account with a Visa debit card because until you are 18 you cannot legally be held liable for any financial transactions you make.

If you want to have some cash, open a savings account as well. Put some of your money on the Visa Buxx card, and keep some in your savings account. That way, when you need cash, you only need to go to the bank. It's a good idea to have a savings account anyway.

I'd recommend opening a checking account (depending on the bank, a parent may or may not be required to cosign) and getting a Visa/Mastercard check card (basically a debit card, but it can be used as a credit card so you don't get hit with all the fees that come with a debit card).

I just opened a student checking account at Bank of America for my 16 year old. No cosigner required but you must go into a branch to open it. It includes a Visa check card and checks.

Good luck

I have placed this in the source box. There is a wealth of information there and a great free debt management software program. I bookmarked the site as I return to it often for the advice it offers. I hope this helps you.

I'm not positive if you can open a checking account without your parents signature. If you can, I'm sure they can issue a debit card. I agree with the previous answer that advised going to a bank and asking.
