You can play with your new pup and teach him at the same time. Take this opportunity to teach your dog the basic commands, sit, stay, down, come. Incorporate these commands with fun stuff like fetch and puppies are really fun to play hide and seek with. Refrain from playing tug of war, it teaches a dog to be resistent and dominant.

OMG you going to have so much fun with your german shepherd. Me and my german shepherd shadow, played football, soccer, fetch hide and go seek I had to teach him how to play football and soccer we loved to play in the snow together and when i threw a snowball at him he got upset and would knock me down in the snow and run around me with his tail high in the air like as to say i got you back and german shepherds are fast learners and very smart my dog knew and understood sentences some people think dogs cant understand sentences but they can he knew how to open doors and many other things. and they make great guard dogs I loved him to death may he rest in peace. hope you have fun with your dog

Run and play with your dog outside. Get a ball or a frizbee and toss it and teach him to fetch. They are great animals and I have had many German Shepherds during my life. They love to frolick and play so teach him well and he will be a wondeful addition to your life for many years. Give him a lot of love and affection and enjoy. Good luck.

EXERCISE. Take the dog for a walk, twice a day for at least 30 minutes (more is better). Take an obedience class with the dog, you'll build confidence for working with the dog and bond with it at the same time. Also find a good daycare facility and let the pup spend half day 3 times a week playing with other dogs, its a good socializing opportunity for the dog and burns energy.

If you can get another person to participate, hide 'n' seek is lots of fun. My son and I play it with our dogs. I hold the dog and count to 10 while he hides. Then the search is on!!! My son keeps little treats in his pocket as rewards! ALOT of fun! Congrats on your new pup!! Oh one more thing.... tug of war is one of the WORST games you can play with your dog.

The one thing i say to do most is to just cuddle, call him names for short ex. Pheobe: Feebs or Sadie: Sades get him is own nice spot for him to call his own. Pay attention to his needs. if he whines, try to talk to him. dogs like that. if your dog makes weird sounds, make weirder ones so your dog can have experience with noises. I have 3 dogs a cat a lizard and a gecko so i have alotta experience. Play ball, try to get him to other dogs, whether they fight or not. if they fight try to move the other dog, not yours.

Teach it to play ball, going to get and bringing it back. They are herding dogs and love to chase things. The trick is to convince them to bring it back. Don't play tug or any other game that teaches aggression.

Tug of war with toy ropes (but not too hard, remember their puppy teeth), throwing the ball around, and play with their paws. Use your hand and put it on top of their paw and make goofy faces and noises. Also, run around the yard with them.

I grew up with Shephers and they are WONDERFUL dogs, good luck with yours :)
