The fact that you took him to the vet and there was nothing they could find wrong with him makes me wonder if he perhaps strained a muscle when he was running and jumping the night before. I had a dog do that once and she was playing and having fun one moment then yelping and dropping to the floor the next. She strained some muscles in her neck. If that's the case, a few days rest along with the pain meds will probably have him back to normal.

Was Murphy doing a more than the the normal amount of running around before this happened? If so could be something called Azoturia or also known as Exertional Rhabdomyolysis or Tying up in horses, which can happen to horses, racing greyhound, agility dogs if they have not been properly conditioned which is a build up of lactic acid in the muscle which can cause severe cramping, in a urine test high levels of myoglobin would be present, but watching his urine carefully over the next 24 hours, if it turns rusty colour or brown it can be serious as it is a sign that all the lactic acid is causing damage to the kidneys and would require immediate medical treatment & fluid replacement if acute the dog may recover fine but in the case where the kidney is involved can be lifethreatening,
It does cause a lot of pain and distress in animals that have it and may not be something vets would check for in dogs

Oh no-poor little Murphy-poor you-if it were me i would be shaken to bits!I would try the meds-and if he is still in this state tomorrow-or worse-take him to the vet again-and get a scan done!He could have pulled a muscle-or could have a urine infection-like said before-it might be lime :(
Make sure you provide him with a very cushioned bed-or even let him sleep on the couch or bed- he needs the softness to relax his joints-and will be able to sleep better!I know this may be a BIG no-no in your house- but if your willing to pay for multiple vet visits-then it wouldn't hurt much to see if hell do better on the couch or bed!The hard floor could be pressing hard-ext!Also-hell need good sleep, so the less pain hes in the better! If you have to pick him up (since he prob. cant jump) be very genital!Bring his food and water very close to him,so he can just lean his head over!you wouldn't want him to get dehydrated too!i hope this helps- for tonight- just let him be in as much comfort as possible-it is worth it! trust me!

at the same time as our canines (my mum and dad at homestead) began walking with a hunched back and dragging his back legs, those indications were observed by diarreha and when we took him to the vet it became out he had a difficulty with digesting favourite canines nutrition. the region replaced into very extreme and now we would want to feed him what's largely raw meat pattys my mum and dad purchase at a uniqueness canines grant keep. The pattys are stated as "barf" i imagine, or something both unappetizing. in spite of everything, the region replaced into extreme and did require on the spot vet interest. besides the undeniable fact that, our canines replaced into very youthful when we chanced in this, so pondering your canines is older, and if he's not experiencing diarreha, i don't know how efficient this may be to you , yet in spite of everything i might want to get him to a vet asap. sturdy luck!

wow, maybe it's his tendons or something not to obvious... Try the dog on the pain meds and see how he goes if not take him to a 24 hour vet he probably needs a scan or something to look deeper in to the problem as it isnt always bones or joints.
I am hoping you have pet insurance as this could be very expensive

sounds like when our cat got urinary tract infection, he was a male also and when males get that it is very very painful and they have the reactions that you are describing, it makes them "plugged" up so that they can't go pee in certain cases...at least that is what the vet told us and it is very serious if not treated
I would get another vet to check him out if this one is not getting to the bottom of it ..we love our pets so my prayers are with you and Murphy

Did she check for Lyme disease????
This can hit a dog very quickly and with out warning.
If your in a area where your dog could have picked up a tick or you have removed a tick with in the past few days than I would have her check for Lyme.
