Call the vet and let him know what happened. Keep an eye on the dogs. Don't hesitate to do some research on the net. Chocolate is horrible for dogs and though some can eat a tiny bit and not have a problem, I'm not sure about the weight and size ratio.

That small amount will not cause a problem. I have 2 labs and they are given chocolate by my kids once in a while and it has always been fine. They smile and just wait around for something else to drop. Just keep an eye on them and make sure they don't get any more.........for a long time.

Ah they should be fine- my vet told me that chocolate is only toxic to dogs in large amounts (like POUNDS of it). Last year at Christmas our Lab ripped open a huge Toblerone bar from under the tree and ate the whole thing. We called the vet and he just laughed at us, and told us not to worry about it, because it was only about a pound of chocolate... Moe (my dog) is a chocolate addict, she steals it whenever she can and is none the worse for wear... but after the Toblerone thing she had the runs for a day or two... :)

It works out at 1oz milk chocolate per 1lb, so your dogs would need to eat 4lbs, 12oz each. Semi sweet chocolate is 1oz per 3lbs of bodyweight, so 1lb, 11oz is dangerous. Bakers or extra dark chocolate is 1oz per 9 lbs bodyweight so 8oz each is what it would take to hurt your dogs. Its the theobromine in the choccie that is hard on dogs and there is only 44mg in milk chocolate. So for a large dog, the occasional small bit of chocolate wont hurt. Say tho you owned a small 15lb dog, you would only need 2 oz of bakers chocolate to hurt your dog. But it would take 15oz to do more than give it a belly ache from milk chocolate. White chocolate tho contains only a tiny bit of theobromine so your dog would almost need to eat twice its body weight to do damage;-)

Take them to a vet as soon as possible, don't wait for signs of poisioning because then it might be too late. Better to be safe than sorry. Considering how small your dogs are, they have more of a risk.

Dark chocolate is almost the worst chocolate for a dog to eat. Please call your vet and get his advice on what to do next.
