$30 = 100%

If Item is 40% off
(40/100) x $30 = $12

Actual cost of item = $30 - $12 (40% off) = $18

Answer is $18 for cost of item....

Hope this helps!

1. All the above answers are correct.
2. Stop getting confused. 40% of $30 is $12and why it would look like too low !! 50% of $30 is $15. What's the confusion ?
3. If may look too low but mathematics work on calculation and not by emotion.
4. Learn the language better. Be more polite while asking help.

1. Make the percent a decimal (divide it by 100).
*40%=.4

2. Multiply it by the price ($30)
*$12

3. You then subtract the percent off from the price.
*$30-$12

4. Your answer is $18

Good. You're on the right track. You got 12. That's the amount you get off. So, just subtract 12 from 30.

subtract that number from the first number, and that is the answer. So 40 percent off of 30 dollars would be 18 dollars.

If the article is 40% off, you can take 40% or $12.00 in this case and subtract it from $30.00 leaving you $18.00, or you can simply take 60% (100% -40%) of $30.00 and get the same answer.
