A similar car, The Dodge Challenger, will be coming out within a year. This is a two door coupe which has awesome styling and is what the new Charger SHOULD have looked like. The car will run somewhere around 25-35K and will be competeing with the Mustang and the new Camaro. And yes, its got a Hemi!!!

The coupe market has been deminishing little by little, so it's that much harder for automakers to build a coupe version of a sedan. Ironically, Acura dropped the CL coupe, along with Camry Solara, yet Altima is releasing one soon.

Building a coupe version of a sedan isn't as easy I just removing 2 doors. Just retrofitting the B-pillar (that center structural member between the doors) is very expensive. Then when all the accounting is done, chances are there it;s not feasable for an automaker to do that.

Granted, there's some platforms that engineered wisely, can sustain such an investment. Ford's C1 platform which underpins some entry level vehicles like the Euro Focus, Mazda3, and volvo S40, allows for a 2 door version...Which it can sell in any of those models...like the Volvo C70. Ford counts on the C70 more expensive transaction price, to make up for the engineering costs of the lower end 2 door Focus'.

So far the highest selling "coupe' is the Mustang, and that platform is solely used for that specific coupe, but the numbers work because so many of them sell (140K+). Same with Chryslers Sebring which comes up on 2nd.

As for all other manufacturer's with a coupe model, they barely can scrap 25K to justify that investment. Nissan has been said they are wanting to pick up the customers that Solara and Acura CL will lose. So they can only hope.

Hope this helps... :-)

Wait for the Challeger to be released. It will basically be a two-door Charger.
