That depended...I was usually beat with my father's belt. A couple of times he beat the crap out of me with his fists.

When I was a child, I was spanked with a hand, a switch, or on rare occasions a belt. I did not spank my son in any way; there are better ways to discipline a child, in my opinion (and my son was an Eagle Scout, A-student, and is now a mechanical engineer).
The sort of punishment you describe is demeaning; in addition, a child should be disciplined by parents, not a sibling. I'm hoping you made the whole thing up to get attention; if not, then I feel sorry for all of you.

we got a mixture of things it depended on what you did and your age. When we were young like till 8 got spanked, grounded and we had a talk as to why we got spanked. What we did wrong and what were we going to do to make sure we did not get in trouble again . Then as we got older we just grounded with the same conversation

My mother used to keep paddle-ball paddles around the house, but she only had to use them a couple of times. I mostly just got in trouble for little things and had to sit on a chair, which was worse in a lot of ways for a little kid. When I got older I was grounded a few times, but she didn't touch me after I was about 7 or 8. So I didn't get many spankings.

We were simply spanked and sent to our rooms to "Think about what we had done." The time in the room wqs determined by what we had done. I think your Dad is sadistic and an abuser, if he thought 45 minutes of "caning" was adequate punishment for any misbahavior. If you have children, be sure they don't spend the night or week-end with him, and I hope you do not consider the same punishment for your children. What he did was humiliating, degrading and embarrassing. None of which is considered punishment.

There is a huge difference in a beating and a spanking....what you described is beating & your parents should've went to jail for it. What you described is sick & twisted.
Growing up we got spankings, usually with a switch....never left marks on our body. I respected my parents alot, both are deceased now. I rarely spank my son, I usually talk to him about his wrong doings. Then, I take cartoons & gameboy away from him as punishment. This type of punishment has worked out just fine.

I was spanked, smacked across the mouth, backhanded across the head, slammed onto my hands and knees on the floor, had whole chili peppers shoved down my throat.

Usually we just got a smack but on rare occasionally we would get the wooden spoon, belt, jug cord. It didnt do us any harm and it did seem to keep us in line.
