my brother calls me names like fat slag and everything elese he also hits kicks and throws stuff at me and i end up in bruises i do think that he is mentally ill as he is 23 but does not act his name i can't leave because i love my mum to much is there and i need her with me my mum and dad are still together but if they broke up i would get the blame daniel always blames me for splitting the family up which is not rite

I thought at first when I read your question that this was just a case of sibling rivalry, horsing around kind of thing. Now that you have said your brother is 23, this is really alarming.If he is mentally ill, it is time for some sort of intervention. Are your parents aware that he inflicts this type of abuse on you? How old are you? If he is mentally ill, who cares what he thinks? This behavior is only excusable if your brother is mentally challenged, but you need protection. Confide in someone if your parents are blind to the situation. Remind them,if possible, that his behavior could escalate and he could harm others and even himself. You shouldn't have to leave to solve this problem. It sounds to me like Daniel is the one who needs other living arrangements....a group home, perhaps, where his special needs can be addressed.

You need to tell the mentally ill brother that if he does this again you will call the cops. There is no good reason, parents or not, for him to abuse you. Even with an illness he has to learn how to treat people or he will hit the wrong one and end up in prison. Call the National Alliance for Mental Illness and ask for assistance in this tricky family situation. Forget about his mental health, I am concerned for yours. This can cause you to be depressed and maybe allow others to abuse you throughout your life. Sometimes after the police are called, these guys calm down and realize that they will be arrested. He needs help for his illness but for now just worry about yourself.

hunny he needs help!he thinks you are his outlet which is not right. i suggest you talk to your parents or to a counselor in school. there are ways and there are people who can help but you need to take action. he needs help in correcting his attitude and the way he thinks and if that doesn't happen ur going to need help with getting over this entire thing and being mentally and emotionally abused.

you shouldn't blame your brother. your brother is those kinds that just need the truth said in their face. talk to him. if he makes fun of you, then you know he just has no heart. i would be surprised if he did.

or tell your mom....

Call the cops if he starts hurting you and send him where he belongs.
Such actions you describe is called domestic violence.
