I'm only 17 this is a long term goal. It seems like a way I can make a difference in something thats not political because I really dont want to be in the military because you end up fighting wars about politics and I simply have absolutly zero respect for the disgraces to the human race in washington or as they like to call themselves senators and congressmen. Anyways I was wondering would my martial arts expeiriance help me get a job as a cop. I don't have a highschool deploma but I do have a GED (I dropped out for decent reasons and I still went to BCC and plan to go to college). Thanks for the answers

Also I'm a well versed/rounded martial artist not a sport fighter. I do eagle claw kung fu, monkey kung fu, drunken kung fu, tiger claw kung fu, jujitsu, muay thai, and have dabbled briefly in capoeira

Requirements to become a police officer vary and how you become a police officer varies depending on the police department. Visit the websites of the police departments that you might be interested in working for. Police department websites often provide information about their applicant requirements, about how to apply, and about their hiring process. Some relatively common minimum requirements include having at least a high school diploma or ged, being a citizen, being at least 21 years old, having a valid driver's license, and having no felony convictions. Some relatively common steps in hiring processes include application, written test, physical fitness test, interview, drug test, medical examination, and background investigation. Some police departments will hire you, and then send you to the police academy. In this case, you would already have a job and be paid while attending the academy. Some departments require applicants to have already completed police academy training before being hired. In this case, you have to apply to attend an academy, and if accepted, pay tuition to attend in hopes of getting hired after you graduate. Many academies are run by or through colleges or universities. Getting a college degree is one of the best things that you can do. Many departments require or prefer applicants to have college. Having a degree could help you get hired with some departments. Some departments pay their officers more if they have a degree. Having a degree could also help you get promoted during your career. Choose a major that interests you, that is marketable, and that could be useful for police work. There are many good majors for police officers and people that want to become police officers. Accounting, communications, computer science, a foreign language, and psychology are some examples. Whatever major you choose, make the most of your time and money in college. Get the highest grade point average that you can, participate in a couple extracurricular activities, get a good internship, and do some regular volunteer work. Knowing Spanish could benefit you. Getting police officer jobs is becoming more and more competitive. Do whatever you can to make yourself the best candidate that you can. For example, don't do anything illegal, maintain a good reputation, keep a good driving record, don't get bad credit, improve all of your communication skills as much as possible, and become as physically fit as you can. Consider local, state, and federal jobs. How well you do on written tests and during interviews can be very important when trying to get police officer jobs. Make sure to prepare for any tests and interviews.

Cops deal with politics too. In the military and in a combat zone you are justified in shooting anything that moves. A cop has to account and be accountable for every round fired. As far as martial arts goes, I would get very familiar with street fighting. Competition fighting is no match for a good street fighter. I've seen it and it's not pretty. You have a GED and that's good. When I wanted to be a cop, this is what I did: found a local college that has a POST class and got financial aid. It's called self-sponsoring. Good luck!!

Check with the recruitment section of the police dept. you are interested, and they can tell you what the requirements are, and whether your GED is accept in lieu of a high school diploma. Being able to defend yourself is just a small part of the law enforcement picture.

Martial arts are not required but helpful on the job. Keep bettering yourself until the next exam you can take to get on the job.

Police departments don't escape politics and politicians, but go for it if that's what you want to do and do with integrity.
