I scanned some images today and when I went to open them with GIMP, they were horribly distorted. I spent an hour trying to scan again and get them right, but time after time they came out distorted. I opened them in paint, they're perfect. I open them in ARC, distorted. Windows picture, perfect,

If I zoom in, half the zooms are perfect, the other half it's distorted all over again.

Now, the image is quite large, but even if I scale it, it comes out distorted.

What can I do?

Here is what I do whenever I am having problems with images, but Paint works.
Go ahead and open in Paint. Then select "image" then "resize". Then enter the same number (depending on image size, I usually use 25 or 50), in both the Horz & Vert boxes. Click "OK". Both the image size, visually, as well as the file size, are reduced. You can do this a couple of times if you don't get the size you want, and for the most part, image quality is not affected.
Then "save as" so you can save it under a new name as the "edited" copy of the original scan; and make sure to select the file type.

Possibility:
Check your display adapter. Either it is malfunctioning or the driver got corrupted.
