Angel has been in rescue kennels for 4 weeks, and has been healthy for her 5 years. Please advise us. We have had her for 5 days. Angel eats well, plays with our cat with no problems, and goes on 5 mile walks. She keeps licking it, it bleeds and weeps. What can we do to help her get the wound better?
Are there any ointments to help her?

Thank you for your answers.

Most ointment will just be licked off by Angel. What you want to do is keep Angel extra healthy so that her licking (which has proven healing qualities) heals the wounds. Keep her well fed and ''slip'' her doggy vitamins. Also depending on her size, some St. Josephs Aspirin (for children) will help relieve any itching or pain she may be feeling. See if she will let you clean the wounds with hydrogen peroxide as well. Dog kennels are nasty as far as germs go. Good luck, and I wish Angel a speedy recovery!

Take your dog to a vet. I don't care what the animal rescue league said about the dog being healthy and how long she was in the rescue league. They will say anything to get a person to take a dog so they don't have to put it down.Take the dog to a vet and get it checked by a real vet. The rescue leagues uses vets that volunteer and just push animals through the system and pass the problem on to the new owner. I am glad you cared enough to give the dog a new home but don't trust what the rescue league said.

Did she have these sores when you got her ? It very well could be from laying in a kennel at rescue.
I would clean the wounds with alcohol, it promotes healing peroxide cleans well but doesn't promote healing, and put on some Ozonol, or some Polysporin. Get the one w/ the antibiotic and pain relief in them and it will discourage her from licking them. It takes out the pain and she is less likely to lick and bug. If they don't seem to clear up, I would get the vet to take a look.

You may want to start with the vet just to make sure that there is no infection. If there is an infection the vet can supply you with the appropriate applications to help it heal.
If this is caused by salt on the roads or a rough few months or ill-treatment by a previous owner then you can try paw balm (there are a number of good products at your pet store.) If it is something that persists or she licks the balm off of her feet before it has a chance to work, try putting a pair of doggie boots on her. It's surprising but when you cover the sore feet, often the dogs will leave them alone.

I'm confused by your timeline there...I mean, if she's a rescue...how to you know she was healthy for 5 years?

It sounds like she's displaying self destructive tendancies. Abused/neglected dogs do this sometimes. All you can do to heal her, is put an "E" collar on her so she can't reach the wounds, and treat them as your vet instructs. Most likely you'll be given a wash, salve and bandages. After she's healed, give her love and attention, and keep an eye on her. Speak with a dog behavioural specialist (ask your vet) to find out what she needs to get her over this emotional problem. Good luck!

Confused! Did she have these wounds when you got her from the kennels? If so, they should have been attended to there. Or, are you saying she's been injured since? Either way, get her to a vet.

Flea bite allergy maybe? If a dog has fleas it's almost certainly got them from a cat, apparently. You'll need to treat the fleas with proper medication, preferably from a vet as it'll be the correct strength and dosage, because until they're gone your dog will continue to get bitten and infected.
Well done you for rescuing a dog and giving it a home.
Just an extra thought, maybe the cat is scratching her when they play?

You really do need to seek the advice of a professional with this. It can be as simple as a food allergy or an unfortunate trip through some thistles, or as complicated as a physiological trauma.
