how can i keep my newfoundland from eating sticks on our walks?

Use a muzzle. Dog might not like it at first, but as all things will get used to it over time. On the other side, how old is the dog? Possibly young and teething? He/she might be satisfying some gum relief in a better way than chewing up your furniture!!

Well i cant really give you a vet answer. I can tell you to maybe train your dog a little better. Make sure he stays close to you at all times. If you have him close to you it is less chance of him running and eating sticks. Hopefully you understand what i am trying to tell you!!
