Pro golfers and amatur golfers use the exact same rules... or at least they are supposed to. The rules of golf are unfortunatly very complicated and difficult to memorize so 99.9% of amatures and even some PGA pros don't know them all(which is why they have rules officals on site at PGA tournaments). The USGA Rules of Golf apply to everyone. Both professional and amateur events might modify the rules (local rules), as allowed by the Rules (for example, lift, clean and place if conditions are really bad). Also, professional tournaments might further narrow the Rules; for example, limited ball markers to a specific size. All of these modifications, however, are allowed by the Rules of Golf.

Many amateurs modify the rules to suit their games, moving the ball when they are not supposed to, etc., just to have fun. As long as they understand they are playing in violation of the rules, there is no problem. And they certainly may not play with altered rules in a tournament.

They are not supposed to. All players are supposed to abide by the rules listed in whichever country they are playing. Now there are certain rules that individual courses have to meet their needs. Drop areas and so on. As for rules of the game they are the same from pro to amateur, you just rarely see your average weekend hackers playing by the rules. Check out your governing golf body for a rule book. USGA, Royal and Ancient, and so on... Hope that helps!!

Well............ No. the rules are exactly the same. Although many amateurs will never have to have a rule interpretation unless they play in tournaments. In the US. The USGA rules apply. In the UK its the R&A rules. At the very least a combination of these are utilized world wide.

Rules are the same, Pro's understand and act accordingly, Amateuers interpret and "recall" the rules. Usually wrong. I have been in the Country Club business for years. Members are the worst - sad to say...
