If it tasted right to you and you thoroughly enjoyed it, then it WAS right, a little embarrassing, a little over the top, a little wasteful, but absolutely right.
I don't make pancakes nearly as often as I'd like to. And, I never make waffles, though I have a very second-hand wafflemaker--I think I'm subconsciously saving up for a serious waffle maker, lol.
But, I do have a substitute for you for pancakes. Next time, try this: Make toast, butter it, and drizzle it in syrup. Yummmmmmmm. Especially when you don't have time in the morning to make "real" pancakes.

I like a lot of syrup! Why would you feel bad about the amount of syrup you use?
something my friend does when he eats pancakes: stack them all up (if they weren't already) then cut a hole in the middle of the stack so it's like a well, then pour syrup into the well... apparently it soaks the pancakes with syrup from the inside out, and if syrup is still standing in there, you can use it to dip in too! I've never tried it, but he says it's great!

I always put syrup on my pancakes\waffles. I just don't soak them with syrup. But if you eat pancakes\waffles a lot and you soak it with syrup, then that will not be good for you. There is a lot of sugar in syrup. Just put some on to cover the top of the pancake\waffles. Then you can let it drip down and it will get on the bottom of the pancakes\waffles.

I eat pancakes about three or 4 times a month on the weekend mainly. Sometimes I use syrup but I prefer grape jelly. And yes I use a generous amount. You make it sound like a crisis. Use as much as you want, this is America.

It's been a couple of months, but yes I put lots of syrup and don't forget the butter. If you're gonna be bad, might as well do it all the way, right? I also have this weird thing where I have to fill each and every little hole in the waffles with syrup. Passed that craziness on to my kids too. lol

I eat pancakes maybe once a month, but I eat waffles more often. I like my pancakes with way more syrup. I love tons of butter on it also... When I eat waffles the amount of syrup depends on what type of waffle I eat...
oh yeah if it is Chocolate Chip pancakes, very little syrup... mostly butter...

I eat pancakes at least once a week, usually 2 or 3 times though, and yes syrup is present all the time.

I don't eat pancakes very often, but when i do, I also use a generous amount of maple syrup. It's the only way to enjoy them, I think!

I eat multigrain waffles or blueberry pancakes about every other month.(about 6 times/year) I use sugar free Log Cabin Syrup on them so I don't have to worry excessively about the amount I use.
