My husband never knew his father. When his mother found out she was pregnant, she up and left. About 3 or 4 years ago, my husband and his stepfather were having a discussion, and my husband was told that his biological father used to write him letters. But, his mother threw them all away. Now that we're starting to look for him, she won't give us a lot of information.

Where would be the best place to start? I've been on some genealogy boards posting questions but, to no avail. If anyone could help with anything, it would be great.

This is the only information that was given to us by his mother:

Francisco Javier Jimenez
Born in August of 1963, 1964 or 1965
He lived in the Fontana-Montclair area in the early 80s.
Worked at a furniture store at the time.
Originally from Mexico.
Married to a woman named Antonia, she had a son named Javier in 1984, the same name and year my husband was born. They're very close in age.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Na-me
I found the following gentleman

U.S. Public Records Index
about Francisco J Jimenez
Name: Francisco J Jimenez
Birth Date: 0 1963
Street address: 1579 Magnolia Ave
City: San Bernardino
County: San Bernardino
State: California

He seems to fit the profile with birth year, middle initial, and the county he is in. The entry has a phone number. You might want to give it a try. I found a birth record for a Javier Jimenez in San Bernardino County born October 5, 1984. It has the mothers maiden name attached, but for security reasons I'll leave it off this post. It this is info you would like to have, E-mail me via my profile. I hope this helps.

Hey Na Me,

Try:
FRANCISCO F JIMENEZ Born 1955
4195 KINGSLEY ST
MONTCLAIR, CA 91763 (909) 624-7001

There are many more entries for this name at ZABASEARCH, perhaps you could try many of them. This is obviously not yours because of the date. But if you keep playing with this search, you might just find him.

You can alter the city, state, dates, etc.

On the assumption that your husband's father also wants a relationship with him (which seems safe given the attempt to communicate in the past), you seem to have enough information to allow you to find him through one of the many people-searchers, or have an investigator do it for you.

As pointed out by another answerer, there are many sites that allow you to do free searches. http://www.accurint.com is a fee-based site (by search) and the favorite of legal professionals - you might be able to find him through there, as well.

Lastly, you could hire someone to do a skip-trace on him - with enough information (which seems to be met here), an investigator can find someone's current address and/or phone number fairly easily - it should cost you less than $100 with a reputable individual - check the classifieds in a local legal magazine (a state bar journal, for example - which should be available in any decent-sized library) for names.

How very sad that he died. The fact that he is a tragic hero shouldn't effect her immigration status in any way. If she truly is an illegal alien, she needs to be deported. Justice must be blind.
