Well, I've been both. Both are crappy jobs dealing with people that sometimes haven't got a clue, or don't want to follow rules, or don't want to be in the situation that they're in, etc.
Until we as a society start to truly value BOTH jobs, and let's through in health care folks, too, we'll continue to have a society spiraling towards destruction.

Hey teacher, got a question for you.
I am not an officer of the law, but I have worked with them to put people where they belong wether it be a hospital or a jail cell. So here is my questions for you teacher, who is "telling the truth and is honest."
How many times have you had to pull a hurt child out of a car because someone didn't buckle the child in?
How many times have you had to tell a mother, father, wife, husband, child that the one they love is dead, and then hold them while they cry and or get scolded at them because the drunk driver, murder, rapist, killer, etc. wasn't already behind bars?
How many times have you had to testify in court and have a lawyer call you a racist, ego-maniac, or told that no matter what you did you were wrong, and that the "accused" is perfectly honest loyal person?
How many times have you been shot at, swore at, and scorned because of your job, and never get a thank you by anyone?
How many times have you worked 6 to 48 hours straight because a crime happened, and if you don't a murder, rapist, etc will walk free?
How many times have you had to repremend someone, and before you get the paperwork done, they are already gone, yelling and flipping you off, and laughing in your face?
Oh, and then also, do this for a mere small paycheck, that in almost all areas of the country, about the same or less then most teachers in the same region.
Yes I know teacher, you do a "perfect job" every day in the class room, right? You are one of the rare teachers that inspire and help children learn. You work too much, have too much stress, and not enough pats on the back for all the hard work you do for the public every day. And you are never, ever, ever paid enough no matter how much you get paid. You never are rude to a parent who is upset with you and a grade you gave a child. You never think ill of any of your pupils......well teach, you get what you sow. You have the pupils in your care, and tomorrow, those will be the officers to help the hurt, deal with the drunks, catch the murders, give re-assurence to the raped and beaten down. And then they will come online, and listen to another teacher complain, and think in their minds what Pink Floydd sings about. "Hey teach, leave them kids alone. All in all, your just another brick in the wall."
And you want to complain???

You know the hardest part of the job I had to get used to was the fact that people lie to me so consistently and often.
I sit in traffic court and listen to people swear on the bible and then proceed to tell complete and utter LIES to the judge.
I catch people in the act of doing things and they tell me it wasn't them.
There are just so few people that actually tell the truth when they are in trouble somehow that I will make the assumption they are lying until I can find proof that they are not.
It is very difficult sometimes to really tell if someone is telling the truth. I've had people swear on the graves of their loved ones and on the lives of their children and I have believed them, only to find out later they were lying through their teeth.
As a police officer you quickly realize that it is a natural reaction from the majority of people to lie when in trouble.
Teachers aren't rude??? Gee I must have some very faulty recollections from my educational experience. I have been belittled, ridiculed and plain crouched at for no reason by teachers in my life as a student. Were all my teachers like that? NO of course not, and neither are all police officers.
P.S.
People who say "honest to God" are usually ALWAYS lying.

Cops and teachers are oppisite and the same. Everytime two of you get together its an arguement. As a teacher you seek understanding and try to better people through education, you likely are of aboue average intelligence and prefer a more liberal enviornment. You are a free thinker. Cops try to better society and put up with alot of bs. Most are not of above average intelligence and their thought process is completely systematic (thank god everytime they get an idea it sucks). Just ignore them they are just doing a job that has to suck and they do the best they can. Dont take it personally.

Listen to this debate. Now in my experience there are good cops and good teachers. And not so good cops and not so good teachers.
I once had a cop explain to me that it was up to him to decide what was legal and illegal. I once had a teacher tell me that we'd never get into outer space because that was where God lived. Likewise I've had cops protect me (it does happen, though they claim it's not their job) and I've had inspiring teachers.
It's all the luck of the draw. There are abusive cops who really need to have it explained that they are public servants. There are cops that probably need to get arrested. There are cops who do a great job, despite all the pressures from their bureaucracy. There are cops who deserve medals. There are teachers who need to lose their jobs yesterday before they can destroy another young mind. And teachers who should be universally recognized for doing a great job.
It would be great for all you guys with rigid opinions if there was one truth to the world. There isn't. Get over it.

can no longer think of of any. Being a competent public servant as a replace of a competent flesh presser is the final thank you to lose the subsequent election. it somewhat is the only activity i'm able to think of of the place doing the activity properly is the final course to the unemployment line. no longer even lobbying companies will decide on you.

There are many officers who should be doing other kinds of work. They lose sight of the big picture and treat everyone like criminals and liars. Same thing with prison guards and rent-a-cops. Many cannot handle authority. And I well understand the stress of their jobs and some of the people they have to deal with.

I've noticed in my home town that all of our local cops are guys that got picked on in high school. They use their power to make you squirm now.
A guy that asked me out in school is a state patrol now. I told him no, (mind you, we graduated almost 10 years ago.) He pulled me over a few months back. He gave me a ticket for going 57 in a 55. I went to court and won because it was such a small margin of difference.

Hey Teach.
Run On Sentences.
You admit you made a mistake.
(Not on purpose but still a violation)
Will you quit your job everytime you fail a pupil?
Those that can...Do.
Those that can't...Teach.
